Down for the Decade #3: Aligning goals with action

Can I hear some drumrolls please? As we approach the end of the year, it is time to move into a mode of action-taking as we head towards our big vision for the next decade. It all starts with a first step, ey? Rome isn’t built in a day my friend, and neither will your big vision for life. But you can and should absolutely use this day to take that first step, however small or big it may be.

We need to internalise that nothing will change or happen unless we take action. Whilst I absolutely believe in manifesting, I also believe in manifesting through action. Yes, you have to believe that you can achieve a goal but you also need to take action in order to get there. Nobody gets rich or fit by sitting on the couch and watching Netflix in between naps.

The first step is to get your vision board back out (again, whatever that looks like for you) and your goals for 2020. Now, pair up logical thinking and good reasoning and start writing down what actions you need to take to get from where you are now to the point where you want to be this time next year. Let’s say that you want to change careers, the first step could be finding out what options appeal to you, after which you may look into options or educating yourself and the final step would be to start sending out resumes.

When you have a general overview of the steps you need to take, it’s time to get specific. Looking at appealing options for a career change isn’t specific enough. A specific action could be taking 3 times 2 hours exploring vacancies websites and note down the vacancies that appeal to us. What could also be a specific action is to talk to a coach who will help you find what you want to do. Another action could be talking to people in our network and asking them about their job and note down the aspects of their jobs that appeal to you. See the difference?

Not only do you want to be specific in the type of action you will take, you will also be specific in terms of time. Create a timeline of actions for yourself that will take you to your end-goal over the course of a year. What do you need to do in January, February, May, September, etc. ?

Creating an outline for a year doesn’t mean that you need to be rigid – it just means that you get an overview of what you need to do. Some things may go faster, some other actions may take a little more time to mature. Don’t rush, but don’t get too comfortable. As always, it’s about finding that fine balance. be sure to evaluate your actions and adjust where needed throughout the year. Maybe you have been a bit too ambitious in some areas, and too easy on on yourself in other. No worries – take a little evaluation moment every month, quarter, whatever works for you and adjust as needed.

I will leave you with this: I believe in empowerment. Empowerment means that if you want to see change, you need to be the one bringing it about. It means great responsibility, but also great freedom. You depend on you for change but you also only need you for change. Create the circumstances you need to blossom and grow. Be kind to yourself, but don’t have room for excuses. Don’t hustle, but align yourself with you purpose (at least your purpose for now), with your soul and your integrity. Be the greatest you that you have envisioned yourself to be. Because I know you can, I just can’t do it for you – but guess who can? The amazing you. Go for it.

I would love to hear from you! What actions will you be taking in 2020 and how does that reflect your vision?

I will see you in the new year. In the new decade. For now, stay awesome.
