How to Save Time in the Morning
Easy 5-Minute Makeup Routine
1. Focus on Skincare First
I keep my skincare routine extremely simple to ensure I stick to it consistently. I use a service called Apostrophe, where a quick 5-minute consultation with a dermatologist results in a custom formula tailored to my skin needs. My custom blend includes tretinoin, spironolactone, and clindamycin to tackle my oily skin, large pores, and redness. In the morning, I use a face wash and a tinted moisturizer with SPF. At night, I follow the same routine but add my custom formula and a PM moisturizer. That’s it!
2. Skip the Brushes Where Possible
To save time, I apply most of my makeup with my hands. Whether it’s just my tinted moisturizer or a full primer and foundation routine for more coverage, I find that using my hands works just fine. I only use two brushes—one for blending cream products and another for setting with powder.
3. Use Cream Products
I used to shy away from cream products because of my oily skin, but now I’m hooked. Cream blush and bronzer are easy to apply and blend out quickly. I currently use the Maybelline foundation stick for bronzer, though I prefer the Nudestix products for both blush and bronzer. If you’re new to cream products, I recommend trying this starter kit to experiment.
4. Find Multipurpose Products That Work for Your Skin
Multipurpose products are a lifesaver when you’re short on time. The Nudestix bronzer and blush can double as eye and lip color. Just a few extra swipes, and you’re good to go!
5. Set Makeup to Make It Last All Day
Since I have oily skin, setting my makeup with powder and spray is a must. If your skin is less oily, you can probably skip the powder. Setting ensures my makeup lasts all day, even with a toddler who’s constantly touching my face.
Hair, Wardrobe, and Finishing Touches
1. Find a Couple of Quick and Easy Hairstyles
When time allows, I love doing robe curls using the unicorn method (you don’t need a fancy tool—just the tie from your robe!). But on days that I don’t plan ahead (which is most of the time), braids, claw clips, and messy buns are my go-to. This method has been a game-changer for quick French(ish) braids.
2. Minimize Your Wardrobe
A capsule wardrobe makes getting dressed quick and easy. I stick to comfy, casual pieces like leggings, jeans, and simple tops. My favorite t-shirt from Old Navy is a staple in multiple colors. The key is to buy clothes that make you feel good and that can be easily mixed and matched so you can grab and go.
3. Make Yourself Smell Good
A good scent can do wonders for your mood. While I try to minimize fragrances, I love having a signature scent. I used to use Marc Jacobs Daisy but recently switched to Dossier for affordable dupes. I also adore the scent of my leave-in conditioner for hair-wash days.
